Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Theme Description

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics theme provides rigorous training in the fundamentals and practice of biostatistics and epidemiology to contribute to understanding of the etiology and prevention of disease, and to improve the health of the public through excellence in research. Epidemiology is the study of the distribution, and determinants of disease in human populations. Biostatistics creates and applies methods for quantitative research in the health sciences.

Our faculty conduct research across the spectrum of statistical and epidemiological science from foundations of inference to the discovery of new methodologies for health applications. We generate data to provide a quantitative foundation for preventive approaches in public health, clinical research and public health policy. Our designs and analytic methods enable health scientists and professionals to efficiently acquire knowledge and draw valid conclusions from their ever-expanding sources of information. We prepare future researchers and practitioners in the field of epidemiology and biostatistics and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge to health professionals and the general public.
