
The UBC School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Gina Ogilvie as the inaugural Division Head of Global and Environmental Health, effective November 1, 2025.
This appointment follows the merger of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) and Global Health to create the new Division of Global and Environmental Health. Dr. Ogilvie will serve as Interim Division Head from November 1, 2025, to October 31, 2027. With strong expertise in global health, Dr. Ogilvie is committed to supporting the environmental health community and expanding the new division’s reach.
Dr. Ogilvie brings a wealth of experience and leadership in public health, global health policy, and environmental health research. Her distinguished career has been marked by ground-breaking contributions to population health, particularly in the areas of disease prevention, health equity, and international collaboration.
“I am honoured to serve as the inaugural Division Head of Global and Environmental Health,” says Dr. Ogilvie. “This new division represents an important step forward in recognizing the deep connections between global and environmental determinants of health. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues, learners, and partners across UBC and beyond to advance research, education, and policy that promote health equity and environmental sustainability.”
In her new role, Dr. Ogilvie will lead strategic initiatives that advance the division’s mission to improve health outcomes globally and address pressing environmental health challenges. She will work closely with faculty, researchers, and partners to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and impactful research.
