Incoming MPH student awarded Indigenous Graduate Fellowship

We are thrilled to announce Ogechi Anumba, an incoming Indigenous student of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program, as the recipient of the prestigious Indigenous Graduate Fellowship (IGF).

The IGF, awarded based on academic merit, is part of an annual competition managed by the UBC Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The fellowship provides a stipend of $17,500 per year and covers standard tuition fees. Master’s students will receive fellowship funding for up to two years.  

Ogechi Anumba (she/her) is Treaty 6 Cree and Nigerian and a recipient of the Indigenous Graduate Fellowship. She recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Earth & Environmental Science as a UBC Centennial Scholar and is beginning her Master of Public Health at the School of Population and Public Health. Ogechi has worked with the First Nations Health Authority on environmental public health, climate health, and Indigenous recruitment and retention, contributing to program evaluations and policy development that address systemic barriers in health and employment. A 2025 YWCA Young Women of Distinction nominee, she is committed to advancing health equity through research and Indigenous-led approaches that strengthen culturally safe public health programming.
