Welcome to the Master of Science in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene

Since 1992, the MSc OEH at UBC has been preparing leaders to protect and improve health in workplaces and communities. As the only program of its kind in Western Canada, we combine rigorous training in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling chemical, physical, and biological hazards with the leadership and communication skills needed to drive change across industries.

Based on surveys of recent graduates (2020–2024), 100% are employed within six months of graduation, 61% secure employment before finishing the program, 71% earn six-figure salaries, and 94% report strong work–life balance. With more than 260 graduates worldwide, our network spans government, healthcare, industry, consulting, and research.

Students join a diverse, interdisciplinary, and global cohort – 30–70% international – supported by world-class faculty, a strong alumni community, and partnerships with regulators, health authorities, and industry leaders. Applied learning is at the core of the program, from thesis and project pathways to practicums, professional development, and the weekly OEH Seminar Series.

Training takes place in modern facilities, including a newly upgraded laboratory equipped with advanced tools, alongside dedicated student spaces that foster collaboration. The program actively supports equity and inclusion, with a strong track record of advancing women’s leadership in occupational hygiene.

At UBC, you’ll gain more than a degree – you’ll join a vibrant professional community, access cutting-edge research, and build the expertise to make a lasting impact on health and safety.
