Dr. Louise Mâsse named SPPH Associate Director, Partnerships and Community Engagement

Dr. Aslam Anis, Director of the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), is pleased to announce that Dr. Louise Mâsse has been named Associate Director, responsible for Partnerships and Community Engagement.

Dr. Mâsse is currently a Professor at SPPH and Scientist Level 3 at B.C. Children’s Hospital Research Institute. She leads a productive research program that integrates behavioural, social, and population health sciences to address the root causes of childhood obesity.

Dr. Louise Mâsse

Dr. Mâsse holds a BSc in Exercise Science from Concordia University, an MSc in Kinanthropology from the University of Ottawa, and a PhD in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Ottawa. In addition to her education, Dr. Mâsse has a strong record of academic excellence and awards. She has previously held a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research – Senior Scholar Award (2006-2011) and a BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute – Scientist Award (2006-2026). Recognizing the significant contributions she has made to research, Dr. Mâsse was awarded the American Psychological Association Distinguished International Affiliate Award in 2018.

In her new Associate Director role, Dr. Mâsse will build on the work of the interim Associate Director, Dr. Craig Mitton, to support, develop and expand partnerships and engagement with stakeholders. She will also collaborate with the other SPPH Associate Directors, Division Heads, Program Directors, Centre Directors and staff in matters of common interest in relation to partnerships and community engagement.

“I am passionate about improving the health of society but we can only succeed by working together and realizing what we can gain by collaborating. Partnership is fundamental to support our School’s mission of healthier people in a healthier society but it is essential to strategically position our School in a leadership role. As often as possible, we want to be the “go-to place” when a Ministry has a specific research challenge.” said Dr. Mâsse.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Mâsse to this new role and extending our gratitude and thanks to Dr. Craig Mitton for his work as interim Associate Director.
