Welcoming Our New Faculty Members: Dean Regier and Kirsten Marchand

July 2025: CHSPR is pleased to announce that Drs. Dean Regier and Kirsten Marchand are joining CHSPR as core faculty members, as of July 2025. Dr. Regier is joining the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) as a tenured Associate Professor, and Dr. Marchand is joining SPPH as an Assistant Professor (Partner).

An internationally recognized health economist specializing in regulatory science, Dr. Regier collaborates with diverse stakeholders to develop policies and practices that accelerate access to safe, effective, and sustainable healthcare. His research has significantly advanced methodologies and evidence generation to promote equitable access to genetic and genomic technologies, particularly in precision oncology and rare diseases. Dr. Regier joins CHSPR and SPPH as the newly appointed Director of the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Academy of Translational Medicine (ATM). Dr. Regier previously served as a Senior Scientist at BC Cancer, where he founded the Canadian Network for Learning Healthcare Systems and Cost-effective ‘Omics Innovation (CLEO).

Dr. Marchand’s health services research program aims to improve the quality of mental health and substance use services for youth and families. Dr. Marchand joins CHSPR and SPPH as a Research Scientist at Foundry BC. Foundry is a province-wide network of integrated health and wellness services for young people ages 12 to 24, providing integrated services that make it possible for young people to access mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth and family peer supports, and social services in one convenient location. Dr. Marchand applies multi-methods, patient-oriented, and integrated knowledge translation approaches to her research. Dr Marchand completed her PhD at UBC.

CHSPR, an independent research centre in SPPH, is focused on generating and promoting high quality health services and policy research. “I am very excited to have Drs. Regier and Marchand join the dedicated team of faculty, researchers, staff and trainees at CHSPR” said Jason Sutherland, Director of CHSPR. “CHSPR and SPPH will benefit immensely from their research, teaching and graduate student supervision. Adding to the dynamic centre, Drs. Regier and Marchand’s research will accelerate the improvement in health and well-being of Canadians.”
