While British Columbia’s public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in better public health outcomes than in many jurisdictions, the long-term psychological, socio-economic, and health impacts remain unknown.
In September 2020, over 80 BC researchers, administrators, funders, and patient representatives came together to organize a virtual COVID-19 Symposium to raise awareness of the rich set of research projects and their methodologies across BC. The main goals were to encourage collaboration as well as identify and address challenges to the research.
The Symposium focused on identifying synergies across planned/early-stage research. The main sessions highlighted research supports, strategy and platforms in BC as well as research funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR Genome Canada/BC, and international funders, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
