Silvia Stringhini

Associate Professor, PhD

Between 2018 and 2023, Dr. Silvia Stringhini has served as the Head of the Unit of Population Epidemiology in the Geneva University Hospitals and Assistant Professor at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. She is the PI or co-PI of several population-based cohort studies including the Bus Santé study and the SEROCOV-KIDS and Specchio cohorts. She serves in the scientific board of the Colaus and SKIPOGH Swiss studies.  

Silvia holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from the University of Paris/University College London, a Master in Global Health from Trinity College Dublin and a Master in International Economics from the University of Pavia. Her main research areas are: social inequalities in chronic diseases and ageing, the role of health behaviours in the genesis of social inequalities in health, and the biological consequences of social inequalities, the role of environmental factors in social inequalities in health. Dr. Stringhini was actively involved in the COVID19 pandemic response and served in the Swiss National Science COVID19 Task Force.  

Over her academic career, she was the principal investigator of several research grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation, University of Lausanne, and the Jacobs Foundation and she was a co-investigator and work package leader of the EU Horizon 2020 LIFEPATH project. Over the academic year 2018/2019, she was visiting professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
