Jacqueline Firkins, a costume design professor in UBC’s Department of Theatre and Film created a collection of ten exquisite evening gowns, inspired by vibrant microscopic images of cancer cells. During a glittering evening that included fashion, a musical performance by Bif Naked, and a silent auction, the one-of-a-kind designs were auctioned in support of the work of the Cancer Prevention Centre, a partnership between UBC and the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Cancer Prevention Centre is directed by Dr. Carolyn Gotay, a SPPH Professor and the Canadian Cancer Society Chair in Cancer Primary Prevention. The Cancer Prevention Centre conducts research on primary cancer prevention following a novel model that links academic excellence with community championship.
