The School’s team, SPPH Zero Heroes, took first place, scoring 350 points – 40 points above the second place teams. Their efforts gained SPPH the title of most sustainable department at UBC. Team members will also receive a one-day corporate massage.

SPPH’s Zero Heroes made an immense effort during November’s Sort It Out Showdown, helping the SPPH community become more conscious about recycling and e-waste. All are members of SPPH’s Sustainability Committee, which, in the last two years, worked to make SPPH a Zero Waste building. They have spearheaded composting and recycling activities throughout the building and introduced individual bins for cereal liners, printer cartridges, and Styrofoam.

More than 130lbs of batteries, 8 cages of e-waste, and 380 printer cartridges were recycled during this campus-wide event, which UBC expects to be the first of many.
