On this World AIDS Day, we want to spotlight a groundbreaking initiative from UBC: a new research project aimed at bringing British Columbia one step closer to ending HIV transmission for good.
Leveraging cutting-edge genomics, AI, and machine learning, UBC researchers are working to unravel how HIV transmission patterns are evolving in B.C. Their goal: to help public-health teams pinpoint sources of new infections and design sharper, more effective prevention strategies.
While B.C. has already made tremendous progress in reducing new HIV cases, the fight is not over. This project represents the next crucial phase in pandemic prevention — combining innovation and compassion to protect vulnerable communities.
On this World AIDS Day, we honour the resilience of those affected by HIV and recommit ourselves to a future where new transmissions are a thing of the past.
