Dr. Janssen is a Professor and Co-lead of the Maternal Child Health Theme.

She is the founder of SmartMom and SmartParent, prenatal and parenting education programs delivered by text messaging. She also leads Optimal Birth BC, a consortium of clinician scientists who work with health authorities in BC to promote physiologic birth and to make evidence available to consumers of maternity care. She leads a Centre of Excellence entitled “Advancing the Science of Physiologic Birth.”

She is the lead author on a study of factors among women influencing personal goals and achieving successful re-integration after incarceration in BC, published in CMAJ Open. In 2020 she was named one of the top 50 Changemakers in Public Health among all alumni of the University of Washington School of Public Health.

Her research interests include prediction and prevention of cesarean birth among healthy women, diagnosis and management of dystocia, management of early labour, and outcomes and costs associated with differing models of maternity care delivery.
