About the speaker:
Dr. Sarah Dickin is a Lecturer at the Centre for Health and Sustainability, Uppsala University, Sweden. Dr. Dickin holds a PhD in health geography and B.Sc. in Earth and Environmental science from McMaster University, Canada. Her interdisciplinary research is situated at the intersection of global water, health and equity challenges, with an emphasis on generating policy and practitioner-relevant evidence in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector. She led the development of the first quantitative tool for measuring women’s empowerment in the context of the water sector, which has been applied by a number of NGOs to evaluate their impact. She currently teaches on topics including planetary health, health equity, and transformative interventions, in a master’s programme on Implementation, Transformative learning and Sustainability within the Department of Women’s and Children’s health, as well as a planetary health module for medical students. Prior to her current position, she was a Senior Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute, an environment and development think tank that focuses on the science to policy interface, where she led and managed Sida-funded programmes on WASH. She is actively involved with a number of global WASH networks working to achieve SDG 6 on water and sanitation including serving on the advisory board of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance.
