Claudine Henoud

Dr. Claudine Henoud (she/her/hers) is a first-year Public Health and Preventive Medicine resident including Family Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Of Lebanese descent, she grew up in Ottawa on the un-ceded and un-surrendered territories of the Anishinaabe Algonquin People where she learned to speak French, English, and Arabic.

Prior to her medical education, Claudine worked for a year in a community health centre, providing services to vulnerable populations. This experience informed her decision to make social determinants of health a core part of her career in medicine.

Over the years, Claudine has led multiple medical education initiatives geared at reducing the financial barriers associated with medical school application. One notable contribution includes the Medical School Application Fee Waiver Program, the first nation-wide initiative to provide medical school applicants of low socioeconomic status the opportunity to apply to medical school at no/reduced cost. Her contributions during medical school have earned her a Concentration in Global Health and Social Accountability at the University of Ottawa.

Fascinated by built environments, climate change, and health promotion, Claudine wants to explore how city planning can influence societal health, the health impact of climate change, and how educational structure and health access can be improved to address key social determinants of health that affect immigrant and marginalized populations.

In her free time, Claudine enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing piano, reading fantasy novels, and climbing until her fingers hurt.
