Johnmark Opondo

Dr. Johnmark Opondo, MD MPH, is a re-entry resident with several years of experience in direct clinical service provision, health systems management, and health systems research. He has worked extensively in an interdisciplinary environment, particularly most recently in public health services in Saskatoon, with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. He values continuous improvement and has embarked on a LEAN Leader and continuous improvement journey.

Johnmark has an advanced level of study and experience in managing obstetric complications in remote and rural settings, as well as in the reproductive health field. He is hoping to further hone his skills in epidemiology study design, program monitoring, and evaluation, and is interested in furthering his healthcare leadership and organizational skills.

Johnmark’s contributions have been recognized with several honors and awards. In June 2023, he received The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award Medal in Saskatchewan. In May 2000, at Emory University he was honored with the James W. Alley, M.D. Student Award for Outstanding Community Service. From August 1999 to May 2001, he held the Center for the Study of Health, Culture and Society Interdisciplinary Fellowship. From July 1999 to May 2000, he was a Population Reference Bureau, Population Policy Communication Fellow. In 1996, he received the American Refugee Committee Humanitarian Award. These accolades reflect his dedication to his profession and his commitment to improving public health.
