About the presentation:
This seminar will present theoretical frameworks underlying the utility of text messaging as a strategy for changing health related behaviour. Dr. Janssen will examine usability, engagement, and value of the program from the user’s perspective. She will compare changes in mental health assessments throughout the program as well as third-party collected outcome data. Lastly, she will discuss issues of intellectual property and program scaling.
About the speaker:
Dr. Patricia Janssen is a Professor in the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia. She is a Perinatal Epidemiologist and Senior Scientist at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Janssen is currently studying the utility of SMS text messaging as a modality to improve health literacy and motivate health behavior change among expectant and new parents. Most recently, she has developed and implemented SmartParent, Canada’s first prenatal and parent education program delivered by text messaging. In 2024 she was named as one of the Top Ten Women Leaders in Digital Health by Digital Health Canada.
