Dr. Gina Ogilvie awarded funding for her groundbreaking research studies on cervical cancer

Dr. Gina Ogilvie, a Professor of UBC’s School of Population and Public Health, is leading a project on cervical cancer that has recently been awarded a Translational Grant of $800,000 from the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The project, titled “Developing new methods of cervical cancer screening with improved accuracy”, will evaluate the role of the microbiome and HPV in cervical cancer progression. This project is a collaboration between UBC, BC Cancer, and Dr. Inna Sekirov at the BC Centre for Disease Control.

Gina Ogilvie is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in the Global Control of HPV (human papillomavirus)-Related Disease and Cancer at the University of British Columbia. Her career is dedicated to eliminating cervical cancer in Canada and globally. She is internationally recognized for her research on reduced dosing of the HPV vaccine, improving HPV vaccine uptake, and innovative cervical screening methods, which have transformed health policy globally.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research is a top-rated cancer charity that established A Grant of Her Own: The Women Scientists Innovation Award for Cancer Research with the goal of promoting equity within the science community. The organization also serves as a premier supporter of advancing woman-led laboratories, research projects and discoveries in the cancer research field. This year, fifteen exceptional women scientists were selected for their groundbreaking cancer research studies, with the V Foundation investing $10.2 million – and a total of $18.6 million since the program’s start in 2023.
