Flexible learning for healthcare leaders

Designed for working professionals, select MHA course weekends are offered in-person, hybrid, or online. Please contact our program office for more information: mha.program@ubc.ca

The MHA is a 24-month professional program for clinicians, managers and researchers who are seeking solutions to today’s complex health delivery issues. Combining health systems, policies and management, our unique curriculum offers the educational and professional foundations required for leadership in health care. Our weekend modular format allows you to study while continuing to build your career. With our compressed schedule, you attend class every 3-4 weeks.

Experience classes either in person or online. Half of the course weekends are delivered with an online attendance option. To promote flexibility and accessibility for those living outside the Metro Vancouver area, the other course weekends are taught in-person in our UBC Robson Square campus in beautiful downtown Vancouver.

Note: the course delivery mode will vary per course weekend and is determined by course learning outcomes.

MHA students envision a career and future in health care and are committed to investing academically and professionally to realize this goal. If you are considering the MHA for your further education and training, we invite you to learn more about our program and contact us to discuss your next steps.

See what UBC students and alumni have to say about the MHA program!

“I entered the MHA program hoping to gain a broader understanding of the healthcare system and stronger leadership skills. The program delivered and I left with frameworks for evidence-based decision-making, a greater appreciation for complexity, and valuable insights into healthcare’s business dimensions. The experience has been transformative, and I’ve recommended it to colleagues, two of whom are now enrolled.”

Carla Whynott

Director of Patient Safety, Island Health Authority

Courtney, B.C.

“I joined the program to zoom out from the pharmacy lens and better understand the big picture—how policies, programs, and people come together (or don’t) to serve the patient. It’s been eye-opening. From learning how systems are designed and evaluated to hearing perspectives from nurses, analysts, frontline staff, and other pharmacists across Canada—I’ve gained insight I wouldn’t have found in any dispensary.”

Harkiran Parmar, PharmD

Pharmacist

Surrey, B.C.

I joined the MHA with the goal of strengthening my leadership skills, broadening my understanding of healthcare systems, and expanding my network. What I found was rewarding: peers who inspired me, discussions that sharpened my thinking, and reflection that deepened my growth. I now have the confidence to contribute to healthcare system improvement with evidence, compassion, and collaboration.

Hamid Shirzad, MD PMP

“My experience in the UBC Master of Health Administration program has been inspiring and enriching. Learning alongside passionate classmates and dedicated faculty challenged me to grow as a leader and think differently about healthcare. The program not only expanded my skills and knowledge but also strengthened my commitment to improving patient care and health systems.”
