The OEH division recognizes that lifelong education is key to individual success. We are currently developing online continuing professional development (CPD) and micro-certificate programs. These programs, taught by top OEH professors in collaboration with industry experts, are designed to empower working professionals with the specific skills and knowledge needed for career growth. They also provide the flexibility to balance these programs with daily work and personal commitments.

COMING in 2025: A Micro-Certificate Program
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH LEADERSHIP FOR A CHANGING WORLD OF WORK (Non-Credit Credential)
This 80-hour program aims to equip working professionals with the knowledge and skills to advocate for, lead, and implement necessary changes within their organizations. It seeks to foster leadership competencies and provide participants with tools to integrate safety and occupational health into organizations, manage Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) aspects effectively, and drive change.
Intended Audience. This course is designed for professionals with Occupational and Environmental Hygiene training, including UBC MSc OEH program graduates, and broader professionals tasked with OHS responsibilities, like human resource (HR) specialists overseeing health and safety.
Course Structure. This 16-week (80 hours) program combines student-led individual and group learning activities on the UBC Catalog learning platform with weekly one-hour Zoom sessions facilitated by an instructor. Participants will have access to various resources, including course materials, video lectures, expert interviews, and assignments. We estimate that participants will need to dedicate approximately 5 hours weekly to the course.
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the program, participants will have a robust set of leadership competencies, enabling them to navigate complex OHS challenges and drive positive change within their organizations confidently:
- Understanding of leadership styles and theories in OHS
- Self-awareness of leadership strengths and weaknesses
- Knowledge of inclusive leadership and the importance of diversity and equity
- Skills for team building, goal setting, communication, and conflict resolution
- Understanding of change management processes in OHS
- Proficiency in stakeholder engagement and persuasive communication
- Emphasis on personal and professional growth, networking, and mentoring.
