Principles of Occupational Hygiene │Continuing Professional Development Course
Continuing Professional Development Online Course: “Principles of Occupational Hygiene”
We’re excited to introduce our comprehensive eight-week 48-hour continuing professional development course aimed at establishing or enhancing foundational knowledge in Occupational Health (OH) “Principles of Occupational Hygiene”.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Intended Audience: This course is primarily designed for non-OH professionals responsible for OEH tasks who are looking to acquire OH competencies. It’s also a perfect fit for early-stage OH professionals aiming to enhance their skills with a focus on occupational health. Additionally, seasoned professionals seeking a refresher course will find this program beneficial.
HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?
Course Structure: The 8-week course combines student-led individual and group learning activities on the UBC Catalog learning platform with weekly one-hour Zoom sessions facilitated by an instructor.
Participants will have access to various resources, including course materials, video lectures, expert interviews, and assignments. The assignments are tailored to match the background and interests of individual participants. We estimate that participants will need to dedicate approximately 6 hours weekly to the course.
WHAT WILL I LEARN FROM THIS COURSE?
Learning Outcomes. Upon completion of the course, participants will understand the role of occupational hygiene professionals within an OHS team, be familiar with the regulatory framework for OHS, and be able to apply the OH paradigm to problem-solving scenarios.
They will also be equipped to perform hazard assessments using OH peer-reviewed literature, describe the measurement procedures for workplace hazards, interpret and communicate OH data, understand the strengths and limitations of the “control hierarchy”, design exposure control plans and intervention programs, perform risk communication, and develop individual learning trajectories and further education, certification, and accreditation plans.
Course Starts: September 15, 2025
