*The online application system tracks all required documents that must be submitted by the deadlines stated above. In order to ensure all require documents are received, including test scores and references, it is strongly recommended that you begin your application well in-advance of the deadline.

The program only has a September intake. It is not possible to start the program at any other time of the year.

Paying your application fee

There is a non-refundable application fee of $160.25 (CAD) and is payable only by credit card when applying online.

Applicants can submit supporting documents electronically with the online application form. Instructions for the submission of documents will be outlined in the online application system.

Official Transcripts All applicants must upload scans of official transcripts (in PDF format) from all colleges and universities attended, including all front and back pages, in the online application system. If the official transcript does not indicate the degree name and the degree conferral date, then official copies of the degree certificate must be uploaded as well. The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral studies provides detailed instructions for Domestic and International transcript submissions.

Official paper copies must be sent directly to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Only admitted students will be required to submit paper transcripts to confirm their offers of admission.

References Submit three letters of reference to support your application. The MHA has provided specific questions for referees to help us address these topics:

  • how the applicant has demonstrated managerial potential
  • applicant’s main strengths and talents
  • additional information to help inform the admissions committee regarding this applicant’s qualifications: applicant’s abilities and achievements.

Your referees are strongly encouraged to write detailed responses to address these topics within the form, or, within their own prepared letter of reference.  We do not require two separate document submissions.

The online application form generates electronic references for referees with institutional emails (ie. not free accounts such as gmail or yahoo). For referees submitting paper letters, these must be sent directly to the MHA Program Office in sealed envelopes with a referee’s signature over the seal.

Please note that referees will only receive a notification to submit references once the UBC application has been submitted.

CV Upload your Curriculum Vitae during the online application process.
LOI Upload your Letter Of Intent during the online application process.

The Letter of Intent can use a question and answer format or address these questions within your essay-style submission. Please limit your LOI to 150 words for each question or if using the essay format, keep your points succinct.

Permanent Resident Card
(if required)
Permanent residents of Canada must submit a photocopy of both sides of their PR Card.
Test Scores (if required) All test scores should be sent electronically by our deadline. For English Language Proficiency tests, results must be submitted directly from the test centre to UBC only. For all other tests, an official paper test score report ordered from the testing agency is required. Photocopies of test scores are not acceptable.

Applicants can view the status of your application and documents through the Graduate Studies online application system.

Successful applicants will be notified by email about their admission acceptance. The email will direct applicants to the online graduate admission system with instructions to accept and pay the $1000 non-refundable deposit. Please note that the deposit payment is required at the time of acceptance. The $1000 deposit will be applied towards the Term 1 student tuition and fees.

Applicants should also review our Frequently Asked Questions for additional information on applying to the MHA.
