Dr. Natasha Young (she/her) grew up near Terrace and moved to Edmonton after graduation to pursue post-secondary studies at the Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta. She completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in terrestrial ecology. Her thesis focused on plant biodiversity and Aboriginal land use in the hemi-boreal forest of northeastern Alberta. Natasha completed medical school at the Island Medical Program in Victoria. She is an advocate of EDI in medical education; she initiated UBC’s first Black Medical Students Association in 2022 and has mentored many Black, Indigenous, rural and parenting students over the years. Before commencing residency training, Natasha worked as a Policy Analyst at the DGO’s Office of Population and Public Health at Indigenous Services Canada. During that time, she worked on files such as Community Health Representatives, National Physician Licensure, and COVID response supply and management. Natasha began the PHPM residency program at UBC in the fall of 2024. She has very broad interests, and as a junior resident is looking forward to exploring the specialty in a variety of settings.

Natasha is a mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. Her heritage on her mother’s side is Black (from the African slave trade) and Indigenous (Mi’kmaq and American Indian); on her father’s side it is English. When not in Vancouver for training you will probably find her out in the forest somewhere.
