Elective Subspecialty Experience
After completing their general public health practice training and subspecialty training, residents may use the remaining time in their program for elective or fellowship training experiences related to public health.
During your elective subspecialty training, you can broaden your public health practice experiences, or specialize in areas such as:
- Addictions Medicine and Research
- HIV/AIDS Medicine and Research
- Public Health Research
- Medical Affairs and Administration
- Other (requires program director approval)
The Royal College conditionally permits six months of training in an unaccredited setting, depending on the approval from the program director. Examples of elective rotations include:
- International Health with UNICEF
- International Health with the Canadian International Development Agency
- Aerospace Medicine at the Defense and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine
The Royal College accepts up to one year of the Canadian Federal Field Epidemiology Program as a field placement.
