About the presentation

Illicit drug poisoning (overdose) is the leading cause of death for British Columbians aged 10-59. This presentation will focus on the use of linked administrative health data to report on population-level trends of fatal and non-fatal overdose in British Columbia (BC). Current and future research on the impact and reach of harm reduction and treatment interventions implemented as part of BC’s overdose public health emergency response will be presented. The purpose of the talk is to broadly introduce Dr. Palis’s research program to the SPPH community.

About the presenter

Heather Palis is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC and with the Harm Reduction and Substance Use Services Program at the BC Centre for Disease Control, where her research has been supported by a CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship, Health Research BC Trainee Award, and Marshall Fellowship from the UBC Institute of Mental Health. She holds a PhD in Population and Public Health from the School of Population and Public Health at UBC. Her research uses linked administrative health data to study the implementation of harm reduction and substance use treatment interventions to inform the overdose public health emergency response in BC.
